Tips for Torsional Loading Conditions

Cross bracing

As seen from the figures opposite, diagonal bracing adds significant torsional stiffness compared to conventional cross bracing. This is because the diagonal members are primarily under bending stress and are very rigid.

Perpendicular cross members are subject to torsion which cause the twisting action (and deflection)

So, to get better torsional stiffness with less material and weight, use diagonal braces wherever you can!
