ABOUT US

Motovated Design & Analysis Ltd was established in 1999 to provide a new style of professional engineering service. We are Mechanical Engineers that focus on Virtual Prototyping during the engineering process. We utilise advanced engineering tools such as stress analysis and high end CAD to validate our clients designs before any metal is cut. We passionately engineer our clients visions, providing cost effective and reliable solutions to their engineering challenges.

Greg Morehouse Greg Morehouse set up Motovated with a vision to “Cost-effectively engineer our client’s vision", through the use of advanced techniques, superior tools and boundless enthusiasm! Greg’s experience with VW & Audi as a mechanic, and his experience with Boeing & Hercules Aerospace as an Analyst, highlighted the need for a mechanical design service with an emphasis on analysis. He perceived that design without analysis was like pilots without instruments; they could fly, but they might not know exactly where they are!

There are many good computer aided design (CAD) firms, some good engineering firms, and even a couple of good analysis firms. But the real value comes when the three disciplines are combined.

Motovated’s Virtual Prototyping can be of huge benefit to manufacturers, designers and inventors; visually illustrating exactly how the machine or part will behave, and where long or short term failures might occur. Trust us, this isn’t always obvious!

Darrell Smith Darrell Smith joined Motovated in November 2006 as an owner and Machine Design Manager, after 5½ years as Product Development Manager at Clough Agriculture, NZ’s largest agricultural machinery manufacturer.

After graduating from Canterbury University with a BE Mech (Hons) degree, Darrell helped design automated production lines for Scott Technology. He then spent 3½ years as a design engineer for Tranz Rail, working on locomotives, wagons, containers and other Tranz Rail assets prior to their buyout by Toll NZ.

Darrell’s qualifications and post graduate experience is backed by substantial hands on practical experience in welding, assembly, painting, and other general manufacturing processes. These skills, plus his excellent performance in Project Management, ensures Darrell is well positioned to "Engineer Your Vision"!

Jonathan Prince Jonathan Prince bought into Motovated and took on the role of Managing Director in late 2011, after spending a year as the Business Development Manager (BDM). Jonathan has extensive experience in mechanical engineering as well as management and sales roles. His experience stems from working with companies such as Tait Radio Communications, Formway, Intercad and inFact to name a few.

Completing a Trade Cert Fitting, Turning & Machining; an NZ Certificate of Engineering (Mech.) and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering gave Jonathan his strong engineering background. After spending his early graduate years as an engineer he found that his real passion lay in business. Creating his own start-up companies and working as BDM, Director, and in other management roles has made his name respected in the business world.

Jonathan is privileged to have worked for some of the leading design companies in NZ, developing world leading products such as the Life Chair. He is a very strong team player, with excellent communication skills and works hard to ensure staff are empowered to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Jonathan is passionate about NZ innovation and has a strong focus on business development, process & sustainable design.

OUR MISSION

Motovated’s Mission is to harness the synergy between design and analysis, and we do this with boundless entheusiam! We provide clients with better products, quicker time to market and significantly reduced risk.

One of the key ways our clients can achieve this is to bring service providers in-house where necessary, and off-load where possible. Some of the advantages of off-loading are the elimination of distractions, and the ability to utilise firms focussed on best practice implementation of specialist technologies.

Motovated specialises in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) technologies, and has implemented best practice use of all of our technologies, included 3D (associative) CAD, MathCAD and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) solutions. Effective implementations of these tools require rigour and training to get the best results; and we add that value to our clients every day!
