Nuts & Bolts

Got a difficult bolted joint?  We recently helped a marginal joint who's bolts just weren't living, simply by going outside the torque tables.  Most bolting applications use standard tables to define bolt torques, and these tables generally try to bring bolts up to 3/4 of proof load (slightly less than yield).  Because a torque wrench's gage won't read any higher once a bolt yields, it is necessary to stay well below yield when using this torquing technique.  But remember that a bolt lives because it's preload is so far above the fluctuating applied load that it seems static.  We applied some tricky math, and used the turn-of-the-nut torquing method to bring these bolts up above yield, making the applied load insignificant from a stress point of view, and allowing them to live in a difficult environment.

New Staff

We recently hired a new mechanical engineering graduate from Canti Uni, Tony Mulholland. Tony worked for us previously so he already knew how we work here at MD&A.  He is part of our strategic plan to develop our business further. Tony previously worked for Canterbury Motor Racing School, specializing in the fabrication and development of Formula Ford single seat racing cars.

When Tony is not working on a new proposal or analysing an existing design, he will be our customer services representative, and marketer.  Feel free to give him a call, with your queries and questions.

MD&A in the News!

Recently MD&A finished the majority of the modelling for Pearson Motor Company's new AeroTwin engine.  This development caught the eye of Solid Edge, and they have published a case study on MD&A success.  To read more about this, point your web browser at:

Holidays

MD&A staff plan to be away from the 20th December, 2002 to the 6th January, 2003.  Greg is taking an early holiday, so will be cleaning up some outstanding work during the X-mas period, and will available if required.  We are all on call however, and should you need some information urgently.

Services Reminder

Remember that as well as our design and analysis service, we also offer detailed drawing creation, drawing documentation, ECO's and archiving, solid modelling for marketing brochures, sales pamphlets and manuals, failure analysis, vibration analysis, and heat transfer analysis.

Finally

We would like to thank you for working with us this year.  Our clients are our business, and we trust we can be of even more value to you in the future.

Kind Regards,

Greg and The Team @ MotoV8d
